The idea of quantum computing is to utilize the laws of quantum mechanics for algorithms and information processing. Quantum computers can use quantum phenomena with no classical analog, such as superposition and entanglement, as computational resources. This leads to many important examples of so-called quantum algorithms that outperform the best classical algorithms with an exponential speed-up. The development of the hardware for quantum computers has progressed greatly, and many platforms for quantum computing now exist.

The SDU programme is distinguished by its focus on software and theoretical aspects of quantum computing. Students will learn the theoretical foundations of quantum computing and be trained in programming on actual quantum computers. Candidates from this program will be in high demand, and there will be opportunities to pursue a PhD.

In this presentation, we will briefly introduce quantum computing and highlight the main points of the SDU programme. Finally, we will look into potential career prospects for candidates with a diploma from this degree.
