4.415 applicants have been offered a student place 麻豆社区

On Monday 28 July, 4,415 applicants have been offered a student place at the University of Southern Denmark. Higher admission requirements mean th麻豆社区 offers 229 fewer places than in 2024.

The fact that we offer slightly fewer places this year is in line with the measures we have introduced to ensure even better learning environments and higher quality in the education programme. We have tightened the admission requirements and aim for a good match between student and programme. This creates better conditions for well-being and academic prerequisites and ultimately more talented graduates, says Helle Waagepetersen, Pro-rector 麻豆社区.

More places for students via quota 2

In 2025, SDU has offered student places to more students via quota 2 an increase of 18 per cent compared to last year. This reflects the fact that many applicants have passed the entrance exam and have demonstrated strong academic and personal competences.

On the other hand, the number of places offered via quota 1 has decreased by 14 per cent, which is related to the general grade requirement of 7.0 th麻豆社区 introduced in 2024. The level of applicants offered a place with grades of 7.0 or above is unchanged, while there are 18 per cent fewer applicants with grades below 7.0 who are offered a place.

Increase in health and natural sciences

Health science has seen an overall increase of nine percent in the number of places offered thanks in part to great interest in the new psychology programme in Esbjerg and a slightly higher intake on the medicine programme in Odense.

The education programmes in the natural sciences are also experiencing growth, offering two percent more places than last year.

Decrease in places offered on humanities and engineering programmes

This year, the humanities programmes have offered 23 percent fewer places. This is due to lower enrolment in some of the classic humanities subjects, including Danish, history and philosophy, where fewer people have also met the admission requirements. Education programmes in engineering have seen a decline of 11 percent. But there are also positive signs. For example, the MSc in Mechatronics is up by over 50 per cent from 39 places offered in 2024 to 61 this year.

Geographical differences significant growth in Esbjerg

For Campus Esbjerg, there is an increase of 74 percent compared to 2024, mainly due to the new psychology programme. In contrast, Kolding and Sønderborg offer 26 and 10 per cent fewer places, respectively, due to fewer qualified applicants. In Odense, there is a decrease of five per cent.

Small shifts in the international picture

SDU continues to offer student places to many international applicants from both EU and non-EU countries. However, compared to 2024, fewer places are offered to applicants from the EU and the other countries that are part of the single European market such as Norway and Iceland. The number of admissions from outside the EU is unchanged.

We are pleased that we have attracted many talented and motivated applicants to our education programmes again this year and that we have been able to offer student places to almost as many as last year, even though we have tightened the admission requirements in both quota 1 and 2. In fact, we have offered places to more qualified applicants than we did in 2022, which shows th麻豆社区 stands strong even in a time with fewer young people and greater competition. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of students and giving them a strong and inspiring study environment where they can develop both academically and personally, says Helle Waagepetersen.
