The panel is part of A Healthier Southern Denmark, which is a collaboration between the Region of Southern Denmark, SDU, TV/Syd and TV2/Fyn. In the project, five health research projects compete for DKK 2 million. Unlike other forms of research funding, it is the citizens who decide via a vote. Prior to the vote, a campaign is run on regional TV.
The high school panel assists the researchers in communicating their research project and provides the young people's perspective on the project. This means that the researchers (typically clinicians and doctors) get a little extra help from the high school students, who give their input on how to communicate the research projects and thus become active citizens.
The students collect data and involve the citizens, or tell how they could have involved the citizens. In addition, the students interview the five researchers. The dissemination is in the form of a conference poster and a prepared pitch.
The schools are offered a digital learning platform and three classes advance to the physical final.
