Why choose Mechanical Engineering?
Mechanical Engineering is about developing the products and technologies society depends on – from robots and wind turbines to production equipment and intelligent mechanical systems. On the programme, you learn to combine creative product development with technical knowledge to create safe, efficient and sustainable solutions.
You work with the entire process from idea to finished product and gain insight into how mechanical systems are designed, calculated, simulated and tested. The programme gives you a strong technical profile with a focus on areas such as mechanics, materials, structural design, product development and modern manufacturing technologies.
As a mechanical engineer, you can help develop solutions within industry, energy, technology and sustainable production – and you gain a strong foundation for both further studies and careers in Danish and international companies.
Mechanical Engineering is for you if you…
- want to develop products, machines and technological solutions that work in practice
- are interested in mechanics, materials, structural design, energy and product development
- want to combine creative problem-solving with technical analysis and calculation
- want to work with sustainable solutions and modern manufacturing technologies
What will you learn?
Throughout the programme, you build a strong technical foundation in mechanics, materials, structural design, simulation and product development. You learn to analyse technical challenges and develop solutions that work in practice.
You gain experience in designing, constructing, calculating and testing mechanical systems and technical products. Along the way, you work with modern tools such as 3D modelling and simulation and learn to combine classical engineering disciplines with new technologies and sustainable product development.
The programme also gives you competences in innovation, project management and technical communication, enabling you to take part in development processes across disciplines and contribute to solutions that can be used in industry.
Teaching methods
Teaching combines theory and practice. You work on projects in groups with concrete challenges from companies and research environments, where you turn your technical knowledge into solutions that can work in the real world.
Teaching language is English and the study environment in Sønderborg is highly international.
The projects give you experience in collaboration, project management and innovation. You get close to the way engineers work in practice – from analysis and idea development to construction, testing and improvement.
Student/teacher testimonial
“Mechanical engineering is just a really exciting field. You’ll be able to change a lot in the world, for instance in renewable energy. Other engineers come up with the ideas, and we make them happen.”
-Hanna Brüggemann, student
