Tuition fees

As an international bachelor’s student Â鶹ÉçÇø, you may be required to pay tuition fees. This page explains who needs to pay, what the tuition fee covers, and where to find the exact fee for your programme.

Tuition fees apply to some international students and depend on your citizenship and residence status in Denmark. If you are required to pay tuition, the fee is a condition for enrolment and must be paid in order to start your studies Â鶹ÉçÇø.

EU/EEA and Swiss students

If you are a full-degree student from an EU/EEA country or from Switzerland, you do not pay tuition fees.

Non-EU/EEA students

If you are citizen from a country outside of the EU/EEA and accepted to a full-degree bachelor’s programme, you are required to pay tuition fees.

Exemptions based on residence status

You do not pay tuition fees if you hold a Danish residence permit that grants exemption, for example:

  • a permanent residence permit
  • a residence permit based on family reunification (with a permanent resident in Denmark)
  • a residence permit granted under specific Danish or EU regulations (e.g. refugees, special protection schemes, EU/EEA rules).

If you hold a temporary residence permit in Denmark, the payment of tuition fee depends on the legal basis of your permit.

You must document your residence status by uploading a copy of your residence permit or passport as part of your application.

If you are unsure whether your permit qualifies for exemption, please contact SDU Admission at tuitionfee@sdu.dk.

The tuition fee covers educational expenses related to your programme, including:

  • courses and teaching
  • academic supervision
  • exams and assessment
  • issuing of diplomas

The tuition fee does not cover living expenses, books, equipment, or exam-related tools such as computers or calculators.

Tuition fee rates vary by programme and faculty.

You can always find the exact tuition fee listed on the individual bachelor programme page.

You will receive the instructions for payment after you have accepted an offer of admission.

You must pay the tuition fee for the entire first year before studies begin.

When do you pay?

Study start in September:

  • Invoices sent by 30 April: payment due 1 month after issuance.
  • Invoices sent from 1 May: payment due 14 days after issuance.

Study start in February:

  • Payment due 14 days after issuance.

How do you pay?

Payment is accepted in DKK or EUR and you can pay by credit card or bank transfer.

Your payment may take up to 21 days to be registered. This affects the processing of your residence permit, as SDU cannot initiate the process before payment is registered. Therefore, the earlier you pay for your tuition fee, the sooner SDU can begin the process. If your payment fails, your admission will be cancelled.

Detailed payment terms

The full terms and conditions for tuition fee payment, refunds and enrolment obligations apply after admission and are available for enrolled students at the student site MySDU.

Residence permits and tuition fees

Fees related to residence permit applications are not paid to SDU.

For information about residence permit fees and procedures, please refer to the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration:

You may also be required to pay fees to a Danish consulate or a VFS Global centre if you are applying from outside of Denmark.
