Research at the Department of Psychology

Research at the Department of Psychology is anchored in six research groups and a research centre, built on a broad methodological and interdisciplinary foundation.

The department works strategically to promote excellent, internationally oriented research that both advances the psychological sciences and supports strong collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and academic environments.

Focus Areas in Research

The department’s research ranges from basic scientific studies to practice oriented and applied initiatives. Across the research groups, activities include:

  • Complex psychological and societal challenges, addressed through interdisciplinary perspectives.
  • Development of new methods, including qualitative, quantitative, and experimental approaches.
  • Collaboration with external partners, such as clinical settings, municipalities, organisations, and civil society actors.
  • International knowledge exchange, through networks, partnerships, and joint research projects.

Knowledge with Societal Impact

The purpose of the research is to generate new, robust, and applicable knowledge about mental health, well being, and human development. The findings help illuminate and address key societal challenges — from mental health promotion and prevention to social and organisational conditions. Through close dialogue with practice, research is translated into concrete solutions that benefit citizens, professionals, and decision makers.
