FreeFly Project
Emad Ebeid Awarded the highly prestigious Carlsberg Semper Ardens Accomplish Grant.
Professor Emad Samuel Malki Ebeid has received the prestigious Carlsberg Semper Ardens Accomplish Grant for the flagship research project FreeFly.
FreeFly will explore how bioinspired flying robots can harvest energy from electromagnetic fields surrounding powerlines to power flight, real-time sensing, and onboard computing systems. This self-sustaining approach enables continuous, autonomous inspection without frequent battery replacements, supporting real-time defect detection in ageing overhead energy infrastructure.
The project runs from 2026 to 2031 with a total budget of 13 million DKK (~€2M) and aims to advance digital autonomy and sustainable energy infrastructure monitoring.
