SDU Imaging Group participates in the "Illuminating the Past" Workshop

On April 11, 2025, the SDU Imaging Group took part in the workshop ‘Illuminating the Past: Advanced Imaging and Microscopy for Our Cultural Heritage’, hosted at the University of Southern Denmark, Campus Odense.

The event gathered researchers, conservators, and imaging specialists to discuss how state-of-the-art imaging and microscopy methods can preserve and deepen our understanding of cultural heritage.

A highlight of the programme was a presentation from the project ‘The Colours of Ribe’, which investigated historic pigments from Ribe’s architectural elements using Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

Other talks included the application of electron microscopy for analyzing artifact corrosion, the use of 3D scanning for digital preservation, and innovative techniques in art conservation.

The event highlighted the crucial role of modern imaging in preserving cultural artifacts and demonstrated the value of collaboration between science and conservation.

We are grateful to all speakers and participants for their valuable contributions, and we acknowledge the support of  TORCH Interreg Deutschland- Danmark, Interreg Deutschland-Danmark, and the Conservation Center Vejle, whose involvement made this workshop possible.
