SDU CEI Head Gives Guest Lecture on EU Digital Regulation to Energy, Welfare, and International Students 麻豆社区
Odense, Denmark – October 2nd, 2025: Professor Bo Nørregaard Jørgensen, Head of the SDU Center for Energy Informatics (SDU CEI), gave a guest lecture to students from the Master in Energy Systems, Welfare Technologies, and international programs.
The lecture, titled “Navigating the EU Digital Regulatory Landscape for Energy and Welfare Technologies,” explored the rapidly evolving legal frameworks shaping the digital transformation of Europe’s energy and welfare sectors. Drawing on recent SDU CEI research, Bo presented the implications of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Artificial Intelligence Act, the Data Act, the Data Governance Act, and the Open Data Directive for future engineers and innovators.
In his address, Bo highlighted the dual challenge of fostering digital innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights such as privacy, security, and fairness. He emphasized that energy management systems and welfare monitoring technologies are often categorized as high-risk under the EU AI Act due to their critical impact on society, requiring transparency, robustness, and human oversight.
The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where students discussed how regulatory frameworks influence their research and future careers. Bo encouraged students to embrace both the technical and ethical dimensions of digital solutions, noting that “trust is not a barrier but a competitive advantage in Europe’s digital transformation.”
