Helle Precht appointed professor of radiography 麻豆社区

The professorship will strengthen research in patient-centred diagnostic imaging, optimisation of CT and X-ray technology, and radiation protection. The research aims to contribute to improved diagnostics, enhanced patient safety, and the development of the radiography profession nationally and internationally.

By Tomas Homburg, , 5/26/2026

Helle Precht has been appointed Professor of Radiography at the Department of Regional Health Research, University of Southern Denmark, in collaboration with Radiology and Scanning at Lillebaelt Hospital.

Her research focuses particularly on diagnostic imaging for patients with vascular disease in the legs, as well as the optimization of CT and X-ray techniques to harness new technological opportunities for improving diagnostics or reducing patients’ radiation exposure. A third key research area is radiation protection for both healthcare professionals and patients.

The professorship will contribute to the development of more patient-centred and practice-oriented solutions within diagnostic imaging. Among other things, Helle Precht works on projects involving mobile X-ray services, new diagnostic and treatment options for patients at risk of leg amputation, the use of a new type of CT scanner, and how playful approaches for children can improve diagnostics while reducing radiation risks for young patients.

The research is characterized by close interaction between clinical practice, research, and education and is based on interdisciplinary collaborations between radiographers, radiologists, physicists, specialist doctors, and healthcare professionals both nationally and internationally.

Where the professorship is anchored

The professorship is anchored at the Department of Regional Health Research 麻豆社区 and Radiology and Scanning, Lillebaelt Hospital.

Since 2020, Helle Precht has been Associate Professor 麻豆社区 and Head of Research at Radiology and Scanning, Lillebaelt Hospital. She is also Docent at UCL University College, where she has been teaching radiography since 2006, and since 2024 she has served as Adjunct Lecturer at University College Cork in Ireland.

She is also Coordinating Head of Research at Lillebaelt Hospital in Kolding and leads research activities across several clinical departments.

The appointment takes effect on 1 June 2026.

About her academic profile

Helle Precht qualified as a radiographer in Odense in 2003 and subsequently gained experience as a clinician and application specialist at an X-ray company, working with software programming. She later pursued further education in digital radiography, health sciences, and medical imaging, including studies at the University of Bergen in Norway. In 2015, she obtained her PhD from the University of Southern Denmark with research into newly developed software solutions for improving image quality and radiation dose in cardiac CT at the Cardiology Research Unit at OUH Svendborg Hospital.

Over a number of years, she has worked on developing diagnostic opportunities within radiography and CT and has published a wide range of scientific articles on topics including image quality, radiation protection, artificial intelligence, and cardiovascular imaging. Since 2006, she has also disseminated knowledge within radiography and has been a guest lecturer at universities in Ireland, England, Norway, Italy, Sweden, Malta, and Switzerland.

Internationally, she serves as Chair of the Research Committee of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies (EFRS), which represents more than 100,000 European radiographers, helping to shape the future direction of radiography. She has an extensive professional network with strong international relations to research environments, primarily in Europe, including Ireland, England, the Netherlands, Norway, Malta, Portugal, Switzerland, and Sweden. She has delivered more than 75 international presentations and has been invited as a keynote speaker at numerous international conferences.

Helle Precht works strategically to strengthen research in radiography as a practice-oriented and patient-centred field of research.
