Profile
IRS Hospital Sønderjylland is part of the University Hospital of Southern Denmark and has a strategic focus on ensuring that research supports the hospital’s core task: the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases. Research must therefore be patient-centred, implementable, and of high scientific quality.
There is a particular focus on, as well as strong knowledge of and experience in, research on older patients with multiple chronic conditions within a local and integrated healthcare system, covering entire patient pathways. This work is carried out in close and structured collaboration with general practice and four surrounding municipalities. The knowledge base is built on evidence from research projects that stem from many years of interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaboration within departments engaged in research, as well as with external partners. A significant proportion of these research projects also involve patient and public involvement.
IRS Hospital Sønderjylland stands out through the establishment of Research Support, the Learning and Research House, a central research support unit that provides systematic and professional support to both current and future researchers across the hospital, from initial idea to publication. It is also a high priority to ensure that strategies, goals, and expectations are visible and meaningful to all hospital staff, fostering a strong sense of proximity to and pride in the research and its outcomes.
