New Telerehabilitation Project Secures Major Funding to Support PAD Patients

A 4-year research initiative led by Associate Professor Marie Dahl has received 5.3 million DKK from the Danish Heart Foundation to improve the lives of patients with peripheral artery disease through a new digital rehabilitation tool.

DRIVEN co-directors Nikos Ntoumanis and Cecilie Thøgersen-Ntoumanis are joining forces with a multidisciplinary team led by Associate Professor Marie Dahl (Viborg Hospital, Aarhus University, SDU) on a newly funded research project aimed at enhancing care for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). The project has been awarded 5.3 million Danish kroner (approximately €700,000) by the Danish Heart Foundation.

PAD is a chronic condition that causes severe walking pain, limits daily activities, and significantly reduces quality of life. The new 4-year initiative will focus on developing and testing a telerehabilitation app designed to support patients in performing essential walking exercises and adhering to preventive health recommendations.

The DRIVEN co-directors will also employ a full-time postdoctoral researcher for 2½ years to contribute to the project’s development and implementation. The ultimate goal is to empower patients with PAD to manage their condition more effectively and improve their overall well-being through accessible, technology-driven care.
