William Elbæk Mistegård is an Assistant Professor at the Center for Quantum Mathematics (QM), part of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science (IMADA).
Mistegård is a mathematician working on topological quantum field theory (TQFT) and topological quantum computing. His most significant results prove conjectures in TQFT that connect classical and quantum theory through asymptotic expansions and are closely related to efforts aimed at strengthening the foundations of quantum field theory.
Mistegård earned his PhD in mathematics at the Center for Quantum Geometry of Moduli Spaces (QGM) at the Institute for Mathematics, Aarhus University, under the supervision of QM’s center director Jørgen Ellegaard Andersen. Before joining SDU, Mistegård was a postdoctoral researcher at IST Austria and has been affiliated with QM since 2021, first as a postdoc and now as an Assistant Professor.
His research is supported by the Garslberg Foundation, the ERC grant Recursive and Exact New Quantum Theory (ReNewQuantum), and the Simons Collaboration on New Structures in Low-Dimensional Topology.
Mistegård’s current research focuses on the connection to quantum computing through topological quantum computing and topological error-correcting codes.
As a student, you may encounter Mistegård as the lecturer in the course QC802: Quantum Information Theory.
